Concerned individuals of Mountain States Health Alliance (MSHA), The ETSU College of Pharmacy, and the Community of Washington County have collaborated to establish a Northeast Tennessee Dispensary of Hope. The purpose of this venture is to fulfill the pharmaceutical needs of individuals who receive medical care in Washington County and are underinsured, impoverished, or due to unfortunate circumstances are unable to afford prescription and generic medications.
The Dispensary of Hope is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 network of physicians, pharmacies, corporations, and dispensing partners that provide medicines to people across Tennessee who are experiencing financial hardship and lack prescription drug coverage. The Dispensary of Hope is striving to create a national network of partners that will join with the program to assist the poor and underserved get the medications they need.
Since the program’s inception, the Dispensary of Hope has:

Collected more than $10 million in pharmaceuticals;

Filled more than 65,000 prescriptions for patients who couldn’t afford them;

Given over $3 million in medications to other clinics based in Tennessee;

Helped over 1,000 patients obtain over $2 million in medications from the national Patient Assistance Program;

Given over $750,000 in medication to missions, including Katrina and tsunami relief;

Built a network of more than 300 physicians and clinics who regularly donate their medications; and
-
Opened up dispensing sites in multiple locations.
For every dollar contributed, over $25 has been returned to the community, and this figure is continually on the rise as the scale of the program expands.
